OUR SERVICES

Surgical Procedures

Michael and cat at PAVC

We perform a wide range of routine and complex surgical procedures, with surgery available every weekday. All procedures are carried out under general anaesthesia and supported by strict protocols before, during, and after surgery to minimise risk and support the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Our clinic features a fully equipped, dedicated surgical theatre, treatment area, and radiography suite. Having purpose-designed spaces allows us to perform procedures safely and efficiently, while prioritising best practice standards and your pet’s comfort and wellbeing.

Desexing

Desexing or neutering your pet is a surgical procedure that prevents them from being able to reproduce. In male pets, it is commonly referred to as “castration”, and in female pets as “spaying”. This is the most frequent surgery performed by our vets, and generally, your pet is home by the evening of surgery.

Orthopaedic Surgeries

Orthopaedic surgery can help restore comfort, mobility and quality of life for pets affected by bone, joint or ligament injuries and conditions. Port Adelaide Veterinary Clinic offers a range of orthopaedic procedures, from fracture repairs and cruciate ligament surgery to the treatment of joint conditions. Our experienced veterinary team will carefully assess your pet, discuss the most appropriate treatment options and provide compassionate care throughout their surgery and recovery, with the goal of helping your pet return to an active, pain-free life as safely and comfortably as possible.

Pre-anaesthetic Testing

We routinely conduct preanesthetic testing (which looks at general organ function and potentially uncovers issues that may not be detectable by physical examination). Patients are also routinely placed on intravenous fluids, which maintain blood pressure during an anaesthetic and help to support liver function. Both of these measures minimise the risk associated with any anaesthetic and aid in recovery and wellbeing.

Hospitalisations

Understandably, it can be distressing leaving a family member in our care, which is why we aim to make this experience as pleasant as possible. Our hospital facilities have been purpose-built to provide an exceptionally high standard of care to maximise comfort. Each ward is climate-controlled, and separate facilities are available for cats and dogs (including giant breeds). Accommodation in our treatment room ensures that patients recovering from surgery or critically ill patients are closely monitored.

We manufacture our own medical oxygen on site. This is piped and available in a key number of treatment areas, including a purpose-built oxygen chamber. This means that patients requiring oxygen can be readily and efficiently maintained for extended periods if needed.

We encourage you to visit your pets or to contact us as often as is necessary to put you at ease. We also endeavour to keep you up to date while your pet is in our care.
